The Barbara Jean’s concept is the creation of Jim and Barbara Jean Barta of St. Simons Island, Georgia.  They and their family own and operate four Barbara Jean’s restaurants in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina.  They also oversee two franchise operations in Palm Coast, Florida and Charleston, South Carolina.

 

We are a “food focused” family run restaurant operation that does something that virtually no others in our price range consider.  We make virtually everything from scratch, and we do that and everything else very well.  As the Savannah Morning News said in July of 2006, “The service was impeccable, the ambiance was lovely, and the food was to die for. It’s rare that a restaurant can pull off doing both seafood and home-style cooking and do both very well, but Barbara Jean’s does just that.”  
Here are a few of the special things we do:

  • Make three kinds of bread every day!

  • Prepare 15 different veggies daily!

  • Bake our desserts from scratch, including our pretty famous “Chocolate Stuff.  We only use real whipped cream that we make.

  • Hand batter and cook to order every fried product, and those include Chicken Fingers, Chicken Fried Steak, Fried Fish Fillets, Chicken Fried Chicken, Fried Shrimp, Fried Catfish and Coconut Shrimp too!

  • Serve Pot Roast that is slow cooked over night!

  • Make a bunch of salads with homemade dressings!

  • Have three homemade soups on the menu daily, and that always includes out truly incredible “She Crab Soup.”  But we do lots more like Shrimpster Stew, Chicken & Rice Soup,  Potato Cheese Soup, Summer Crab Stew, Cheese Broccoli Soup, Tomato Basil Soup, Chili with Fresh Celantro, and lots and lots more!

Sure the focus is on food, but we work very hard to do it all right.  We know the most important visit we get from you is the next one, so we have to make this as near perfect as we can.


Special Notes. We have handicapped access, large and small booths, drawleaf tables that expand to handle larger parties, and covered outside tables.
